BANK CARD SCAM |
||
Warning: Protect Yourself and Others
Police are reminding residents to stay vigilant and be aware of a scam involving criminals impersonating bank staff. Fraudsters may call and claim there has been suspicious activity on your account or that your bank card needs replacing. They can sound convincing, may know some of your personal details, and might even tell you that a courier or bank representative will visit your home to collect your old card and deliver a new one. This is a scam.
Banks will never send someone to your home to collect, exchange, or replace your bank card. They will never ask for your PIN. If anyone contacts you and asks you to hand over your bank card, cash, PIN, or banking information, do not comply. Fraudsters use pressure, urgency, and fear to convince victims that immediate action is required.
Remember:
• Your bank will not come to your home to collect your card.
• Your bank will never ask for your PIN.
Fraud can affect anyone, regardless of age or background. Please take a moment to share this advice with family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues. Raising awareness can help prevent someone from becoming a victim.
If you believe you have been targeted, or if you have handed over your bank card, PIN, or banking details, contact your bank immediately and report the matter to the police.
